YMCA England & Wales is delighted to announce that its new charity shop in Newark will open to the local community on Tuesday 18th October, with product donations welcome and one final push for volunteers to help with running the new venue.
As well as providing local employment and volunteering opportunities, the shop will help to generate much needed funds locally, with some proceeds feeding directly in to YMCA Newark & Sherwood.
Selling everything from furniture to clothing and electricals, the store is situated at 23 St Marks Place, Newark, NG24 1XP in Newark and will open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday-Sunday.
Todd Cauthorn, Executive Director, YMCA Newark & Sherwood, said: “We know that charity shops provide a lifeline to people who are unable to afford items at their recommended retail price, and this option is especially vital during the ongoing cost of living crisis. We look forward to adding to the growing profile of YMCA England & Wales charity shops, and welcome the store opening to the local community this week, which we hope will be a hub of activity for people in the area.
“When you buy goods from the YMCA charity shop the benefits are two-fold, as you are also effectively making a donation to our local organisation and allowing us to continue our essential work to improve the life chances of young people in the region.”
YMCA England & Wales is launching a drive for more volunteers to work at the shop on a part-time basis, working alongside a manager, assistant manager and other volunteers. Responsibilities include processing donations, merchandising and selling and further information can be found at https://www.ymca.org.uk/shops
More than 1,000 volunteers work in YMCA charity shops across England and Wales and come from all walks of life, including students who want to contribute to the community, people who are retired and have some time to spare, and young people who want to gain retail experience to improve their CV.
Graham Astley, Regional Manager, YMCA England & Wales, said: “I am really excited about opening this new YMCA shop in Newark. I think it will be a valuable addition to the community where we can help and support those that need our services. We will offer great value products alongside fantastic opportunities to volunteer to gain work experience and new skills for your CV, as well as a place to have a good chat with new friends over a cup of tea.”
Sarah Morgan, shop Manager from Newark, said: “I’m really looking forward to opening our doors to the local community this week and we have some excellent items in great condition at an affordable price. All profits will go towards helping us to continue our vital work as a charity, so I would encourage everyone to visit and explore what we have to offer.
“We are always looking for more donations, so if you have pre-loved items of furniture, clothing, media, electricals and bric-a-brac, please bring them in to us in a clean, sellable condition. You can drop them off at the shop between the hours of 9am to 5pm. If you are interested in volunteering at the shop, you’re welcome to call in and find out more about what this involves.”
