A talented Worcestershire teenager is set to take the next steps in fulfilling his ambition to becoming a world motorsport champion.

Tommy Harfield, 15, started his racing career in the national go-karting championship at the age of nine, representing one of the best teams in the country and winning the Shennington Cadet Championship when he was just 12.

With more silverware in his sights, the talented teenager from Lower Broadheath is now preparing for his rookie season in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship in which he will compete against dozens of 14 to 17 year-olds for the coveted title.

The step into cars for the season opener at Silverstone in March will see Tommy representing the multi-championship-winning Race Car Consultants team who will provide him with mechanical, engineering, practice and race day support.

As one of the team’s four handpicked drivers, he will take part in 24 races over eight gruelling rounds around world famous race tracks, which also includes Brands Hatch and Thruxton, with one eye on stepping up again into Formula 4 and ultimately into Formula One.

Tommy said: “I’m really excited to be moving into the Fiesta Junior Championship this year and even though it’s my first season in the car, I’m feeling confident and things have gone really well so far throughout the winter.

“I’m up against lots of fantastic drivers but I’m feeling good and my tough schedule should prepare me well.

“More than anything, I have a first-class car and team and that’s given me huge confidence that I can win and then take my next step up into single seater cars, with the ultimate dream being Formula One driver.”

David Ellesley from Race Car Consultants added: “Tommy is a huge talent and putting his heart and soul into preparing for the new season alongside his team mates. It’s a big year for him and if he keeps learning and progressing, he has a superb future ahead of him.”

Tommy will race in a modified Mark 7 Ford Fiesta Zetec car. With a 1.6 litre engine, the car has been completely rebuilt with an upgraded engine, brakes, wheels, suspension, roll cage and modified electronics.
