The Student Energy Group (TSEG) is delighted to announce that it has not only been shortlisted for one award, but THREE, at the prestigious upcoming UK Business Tech Awards 2024.

The Student Energy Group, a Birmingham-based tech-led energy business, has been shortlisted as a finalist in three categories as a testament to its industry-leading solutions and rapid growth within the PropTech sector: ‘Property Tech Company of the Year’, ‘Most Impressive Growth’ and ‘Tech Company of the Year – Medium Business’.

The UK Business Tech Awards celebrates the UK’s finest tech businesses and rewards the innovative and exceptional application of technology that transforms and grows businesses.

One of the co-founders of TSEG, Alex Back, commented: “What an achievement! We are incredibly honoured to be named as finalists across three such significant categories.”

“This recognition highlights the hard work and dedication everybody across our team drives forwards within the industry. It’s an exciting time for us and these nominations reflect our commitment to simply do the right thing, whether that’s by our student and landlord customers, partners or the planet.”

Finalist categories:

• Property Tech Company of the Year:

TSEG earned this nomination for its disruptive technologies currently advancing the industry. An example of this is TSEG’s strategic partnership with the online student lettings platform, StuRents. This collaboration allowed TSEG to integrate its flexible utilities packages directly into StuRent’s tenancy bookings process, providing students with a seamless customer experience when selecting utilities along with their accommodation. As a result, TSEG experienced a 68% increase in sales on the StuRents platform as well as an impressive 90% retention rate among its landlord customers.

• Most Impressive Growth:

TSEG has been shortlisted for this award due to its unique combination of extraordinary growth, disruptive technologies, strong customer relationships and commitment to advancing the industry. Despite challenges including the 2022 UK energy crisis, driven by the conflict in Ukraine, TSEG not only maintained but thrived in both employee and customer retention. The business achieved a revenue of over £20 million in 2023, equating to a 500% increase on the previous year and an 800% team growth, to facilitate the demand for its services and technologies.

• Tech Company of the Year – Medium:

TSEG’s rapid 500% employee growth, along with it is remarkable 90% landlord customer retention rate and 54% new customer conversion rate, earned them recognition in this category. The company’s disruptive software solutions have had a profound impact on the PropTech sector, elevating industry standards.

Founded in 2021, The Student Energy Group has quickly become a trailblazer in the PropTech industry, known for its ability to change and solve complex challenges through data-led technologies. By leveraging strategic partnerships and integrating advanced technologies, TSEG has transformed how landlords and students interact with the rental market.

Its remarkable growth and impact, particularly during challenging periods like the UK energy crisis, underlines its resilience for success. With a mission to revolutionise the utilities sector, enhance user experience and build technology that adds tangible value, TSEG is poised for continued expansion and success.

Alex Back continued: “We are grateful for this recognition and energised by what lies ahead for TSEG. Our team remains committed to pushing boundaries and finding new ways to disrupt the property sector for the better.”

The winners of the UK Business Tech Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on Thursday 19th November.
