The ribbon has officially been cut on a brand-new wellness and multi-faith space at a care home in Sutton Coldfield.

Care UK’s Bishops Manor, on Jockey Road, welcomed the Mayor of Sutton Coldfield, Councillor Tony Briggs, to mark the official launch of the new space, which is set to become an inclusive, dedicated multi-faith area and wellness room for residents to enjoy.

Following the grand unveiling, residents enjoyed seeing the brand-new facilities for the first time and spoke to Councillor Tony about their favourite memories of living in Sutton Coldfield.

The room has been designed by team members and resident ambassador, Sid Knight, to create a multi-purpose space that encourages wellness in all aspects, while also promoting inclusivity and diversity of all people, from any background or religion. Whether choosing to use the space for quiet reflection, daily prayer or group services, it is hoped that the multi-faith room will bring together different communities within the home.

82-year-old resident, Devi, follows a Hindi faith and is looking forward to making use of the new area. Her daughter, Yogini, said: “As a family, we’re delighted that there is now a room within the home dedicated for worship that gives residents a dedicated opportunity to pray and have some time of reflection.”

The room also includes exercise equipment, allowing it to be used to support people’s physical and mental wellbeing. Resident ambassador, 88-year-old Sid, is keen to use the space to support his own wellbeing.

Sid commented: “I have my own exercise regimen which gives me a focus for the day and supports my mental health. I’m really excited to use the space to help me achieve my daily target of 10,000 steps on the treadmill. I also do lots of press ups – If you don’t use it, you lose it!”

Thomas Bampfield, General Manager at Bishops Manor, added: “We are delighted to have officially cut the ribbon on our new dedicated multi-faith and wellness room to support the needs of residents, team members and visitors alike.

“Here at Bishops Manor, we are committed to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the home; the launch of our multi-faith room is just one of the ways we are implementing these values.

“I would like to thank Councillor Tony Briggs for coming to the home to help celebrate this special milestone for Bishops Manor. May everyone who uses the wellness and multi-faith room enjoy the peaceful environment that it provides.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Bishops Manor incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been designed to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
