When a major health scare threatened his life HR specialist Richard Tunnicliffe couldn’t have been blamed for taking a prolonged break from building a business.
For many people, an operation to remove a brain tumour, would have been a signal to rein in plans to develop their small business, but just months after undergoing major surgery, Richard’s not only back in business but has a clear plan to grow Order Employment Services Ltd.
“Prior to my medical scare, I was content with running my micro-business, with the support of two trusted associates. But something, maybe a realisation of my own mortality and the fragility of life, has made me come back with renewed business energy,” said Richard of Baddeley Green, Stoke-on-Trent.
Now the experienced HR business owner has a strategy in place to grow a 10-strong team of Stoke-on-Trent based experts, offering services to small and medium sized companies across the Midlands and North West England.
“I had to take six months off to recover and it was an opportunity to take stock. It made me recognise that I owe it to myself and my family to use my expertise to achieve in business and to recognise I can make a significant impact in terms of helping companies.”
Richard founded Order Employment Services in 2020 on the back of over a decade of experience in HR and people management
He said: “The vision I have for Order Employment Services Ltd, places a strong emphasis on forging dedicated partnerships and understanding businesses on a personal level. I want to work with business leaders who value meaningful connections over generic advice.
“I understand that how the way you, as an employer, look after your people has an impact on your bottom line. Managing your team is your greatest responsibility and I set up Order Employment Services to ensure managers and business owners could feel they were being fully supported.
“Our ideal client is one we can get to know properly. We don’t want to provide general advice via phone, email, or app. We want to understand our clients’ businesss and work together.”
To support his newfound passion for business development, Richard a Staffordshire University Law graduate, is now going back to university to study the Peter Coates MSc in Entrepreneurship at Staffordshire University.
Order Employment Services supports companies to manage all aspects of HR and Employment Law compliance, including recruitment, creation of policy and documentation, and management of issues including redundancy consultations, employee disputes, and disciplinaries and grievances.
