Nifty Communications continues its growth with the high-profile addition of golf pro James Brown, who joins the agency as business development manager.
Brown joins from the PGA [Professional Golfers Association], where he helped the global sports brand and individual pros understand and amplify their value. He now joins Nifty as they continue their quest to become the UK’s leading sports marketing agency by 2025.
Having competed in tennis, badminton, cricket and swimming as a youth – Brown is no stranger to sport – golf came naturally to the 47-year-old, who was recognised as a PGA Pro at the tender age of 19. The Gloucestershire native played the West Region circuit while learning his craft before following the business side of the industry.
James’ resume includes 11 years in the Far East, where he ran the world-famous Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai. James developed the club’s facilities, operations and revenue and hosted the world’s top 50 tour professionals during the 2008 & 2009 WGC HSBC Champions tournament, including Tiger Woods.
In 2010, Brown serviced 18,000 members of Singapore Island Country Club by providing the latest 3D motion capture teaching technologies and latest golf hardware and clothing labels. Two years later, he returned to the UK joining The PGA as Regional Manager, covering the Midlands.
James has joined Nifty as its business development manager, recruiting clubs and organisations looking to unlock new, sustainable revenue streams through monetised distribution of their content. The agency, which works to a shared-risk model, can generate thousands of pounds a month which is currently being left on the table by sports clubs and organisations.
Nifty Communications CEO, Christian Collison, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome James to the team. His career, network and knowledge of elite sport will be invaluable here at Nifty and we look forward to seeing him thrive in this new role. 2022 was a big year for us in the golf space as we provided PPC, social media and creative support to a major sponsor of both the 150th Open at St Andrews and the BMW International Open in Germany. We now look forward to building on this momentum with James.”
James added: “I couldn’t think of a better way to start to the year than joining Nifty Communications. I’ve only been here a short amount of time but have been blown away by the team’s expertise and passion. Sport is so important to so many people and during a time when it has never been harder to secure funding, we look forward to helping clubs and organisations access extra income from their social content and commercial relationships. I truly believe we’re sat on a business model which can change the future of sport forever.”
