Youth theatre start-up Active Drama UK is set to undertake its first performance this month, an adaptation of William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies.
The Wolverhampton based organisation that was set up last year will perform its debut at Wolverhampton Grammar School. The show will run from February 3rd to 4th and has been supported by Central Youth Theatre, Wolverhampton’s longest running youth theatre.
Active Drama UK were awarded a grant from Young Business Matters in 2022, and Lord of the Flies will be the first chance to showcase its potential.
Roisin Murphy, director of Active Drama UK said: “It has been great to see our organisation’s growth in such a short amount of time, the actors and crew are all committed to putting on a great show and we’re excited to get started.
“The process has been a gruelling one, from initial bids for funding to the casting and rehearsing of this play. But me and co-director Marcus feel we have the ingredients for a memorable show.
“The source material is very interesting, a dark study of human nature. We feel that anyone can take something away from it. The support from Central Youth Theatre has also been valuable throughout this creative process.”
Lord of the Flies tells the story of stranded school boys, pitted against each other as they revert to primal instincts, whilst others try to maintain order and rules.
Both performances start at 19:30 and ticket details can be found here: https://www.centralyouththeatre.org/whats-on/lord-of-the-flies/
