One of the largest operators of pubs, bars and restaurants, Mitchells & Butlers, headquartered in Birmingham, has scooped the award for Best Sustainable Pub Company at the prestigious Publican Awards in London.
The awards, which are the biggest event in the hospitality industry calendar, saw hundreds of businesses compete to be named the best across a range of categories, from best sustainable pub to best accommodation operator.
More than 1,400 people attended the stand-out awards at London Evolution for a night which celebrates excellence across the UK pub and bar scene.
Picking up the award for Best Sustainable Pub Company on the night, David Gallacher, Divisional Director – Restaurants, at Mitchells & Butlers, said: “This acknowledgement is a result of the ongoing work and innovation across our business as we continue to work towards a better tomorrow. We’re delighted that our sustainability strategy wowed the judges as we took them on a tour to showcase how our strategy and business targets are being brought to life and realised across the business.
“We demonstrated everything from our kitchen equipment and furniture recycling schemes to our programme of Go Green initiatives which are helping to reduce emissions; the introduction of plant-based items and re-engineering of our guest menus, along with efforts being made to recycle more and waste less. In short, we left no stone unturned in showing why M&B really is the Best Sustainable Pub Company, so we are thrilled with the win!”
Ed Bedington, editor of The Morning Advertiser, which organises the awards, said: “These awards are the pinnacle for companies to win – the judging process really puts the businesses through their paces, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to celebrate with our winners.
“All our finalists are outstanding operators, across a range of fields, so to be able to come out on top is a real achievement and one our winning businesses should rightly be proud of.
“The pub and bar sector is really under the cosh at the moment, so it’s superb to see that these businesses, despite the challenges, continue to maintain the high standards that have put them at the top of their game.”
