MAGNET CKS HAS TEAMED UP WITH NATIONAL CHARITY BAND OF BUILDERS TO PROVIDE BRAND NEW KITCHEN FOR FAMILY
Rob Lamb, a quantity surveyor from the Solihull area, was left paralysed from the chest down after suffering a severe spinal cord injury last year. The 58-year-old dad of four was keen to return home following the accident but his injuries were so severe that the house needed special adaptations to ensure it was practical and comfortable for Rob. This is where Magnet CKS and national charity Band of Builders stepped in.
A team of 60 volunteer tradespeople, arranged by Band of Builders, worked on the house over the course of nine days. One of the main alterations was a new, state-of-the-art kitchen courtesy of Magnet CKS. The new kitchen features Magnet CKS’s Luna Matt Grey units, Nebraska oak laminate worktops, a rise and fall sink and a cooker hob.
The new kitchen will freshen up the space and create a social environment for Rob and his children to enjoy. The new units and appliances will help to make Rob’s day-to-day life that bit easier as the rise and fall system is beneficial for those with limited mobility. The downstairs of the home will also have a new bedroom and wet room added so that Rob can easily access what he needs.

Andy Gould, Sales and Operations Director at Magnet CKS commented: “We were extremely sorry to hear about the devastating impact that Rob’s injury has had, so when Band of Builders got in touch to see if we’d be able to help, it was an immediate yes. Our design experts were keen to create a practical, yet beautiful, new space for the Lamb family to enjoy and we hope it provides the family with a focal point of the home to relax and socialise in. We wish Rob and his family the best of luck with the recovery.”
Band of Builders is a registered charity that helps members of the UK construction industry whose lives have been affected by illness or injury. Volunteers give up their time for free to work on projects like Rob’s, while materials are donated by companies across the industry such as Magnet CKS. Rob’s project is sponsored by Tarmac Blue Circle and was led by Band of Builders volunteers, Tim Winch and Craig Cashmore.
Speaking about the project, Gavin Crane, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Band of Builders, said: “When we heard about Rob’s story, we were keen to offer our assistance and coordinate a project that would make living with his injury that bit easier. Every project we do always makes a huge difference to our beneficiaries’ lives and this one is no different. Rob and his family have been through a difficult time after losing Rob’s wife Julie suddenly in 2017 and now his accident, so we just wanted to do what we could to help.”
“We couldn’t do what we do without the support of businesses like Magnet CKS. We’re extremely grateful for all of the resources and time that people have kindly donated to aid in Rob’s home transformation. We know that this renovation will make a huge difference for the family and look forward to hearing how they get on with their new space”.
