A group of talented children from a nursery in East Leake have created a set of ‘owl-some’ masks to help celebrate local birds, thanks to a donation from a local housebuilder.

David Wilson Homes East Midlands – which is building a variety of three bedroom homes at The Skylarks in the village – has provided East Leake Day Nursery with £100 worth of equipment to inspire children to get creative while learning about local birds.

The children were able to turn the houserbuilder’s donation into vibrant masks, using the provided paints, pens, feathers, stickers, glitter and more.

The youngsters donned their masks during a forest session hosted by the nursery’s Forest Leader, where they learnt about different species of birds and what characteristics to look for when identifying them.

Amanda, who works at East Leake Day Nursery, said: “The children love being outdoors and enjoyed taking part in the Big Schools’ Birdwatch, especially investigating what birds we have in our woodland, it was lovely for the children to revisit and extend things they had previously learnt about birds.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed making their bird masks and we would like to thank David Wilson Homes for their kind contribution towards this.”

Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “To thank the children for their impeccable efforts during the Big Schools’ Birdwatch in February, we wanted to pass on some crafting kits to inspire creativity and get the children ready and raven with excitement for their school forest session.

“Creative learning is a great way to help keep kids engaged in classes, and we hope our donation will continue to inspire the children at East Leake Day Nursery to show off their talents.”
