Grant Thornton’s Private Tax team in Birmingham bolstered with appointment and promotion

Grant Thornton UK LLP has announced that Billy Chiverton and Jon Basten have both been named as directors in its Private Tax team in the leading independent assurance, tax and advisory firm’s Birmingham office.

Billy and Jon will play a pivotal role in delivering the Private Tax team’s ambitious growth plans, working alongside partners Dan Hartland and Sue Knight, to continue building and developing Grant Thornton’s market leading tax advisory offering, which encompasses specialist support for ultra-high net worth individuals, private businesses and owners, and transactional tax. With the recruitment of Billy, the team becomes 16 strong, with plans to continue expanding in 2024 and beyond.

Jon has 12 years’ experience in tax advising on private business acquisitions and disposals, corporate restructuring and succession planning and will lead the Private Tax team’s transactional tax offering, focused on supporting vendors prepare for and then successfully negotiate exit events.

Billy has 13 years’ experience working with privately owned businesses and their stakeholders, supporting his clients through key commercial and personal milestones, from starting new ventures right through to transition of wealth to the next generation. He has spent most of his career at Grant Thornton and returns to the firm after some time at a large accounting firm.
