A new health and safety training hub has opened in Staffordshire after receiving the ‘Gold standard’ of health and safety accreditations from NEBOSH to offer a dedicated training facility for everything from construction and manufacturing to mental health and suicide prevention.

Gaskell Safety, which is now based in Eastern Avenue, Burton, has secured international health and safety accreditations with NEBOSH and IOSH to become a dedicated training facility offering over 100 courses to support individuals and businesses in anything from construction, manufacturing, fire safety, food and drink and mental health.

The move, which doubles the family firm’s capacity, has seen 5 new staff join the business and created two dedicated training rooms and break out space at the 2000 sq ft site – with plans to expand with a CITB testing centre in the near future.

Arron Gaskell, Managing Director at Gaskell Safety, said the move means that the firm can now offer businesses a one stop shop for health and safety support, training and testing in the Midlands.

He said: “Health and safety is a legal requirement and we want to help businesses to get their staff trained as efficiently and effectively as possible. Many local businesses traditionally have to travel further afield or hire conference facilities to offer employees training. Gaskell Safety is now providing a much-needed new training centre right here in Burton on Trent.

“The town and surrounding areas are home to a lot of regeneration and major new growth so it is vital that we are able to provide the training and facilities to support businesses and their employees as they grow.”

Working with large corporations as well as SME’s and individuals looking to get the relevant qualifications for all aspects of health and training legislation Gaskell Safety offers courses from entry level to NVQ Level 7.

Receiving silver in the coveted international accreditation NEBOSH, which is considered the gold standard of health and safety qualifications, they have also been accredited by the world’s largest health and safety body the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

Further courses include the Safety Passport Alliance (SPA) Core, Food and Drink and renewal certificate, CITB accredited construction courses from entry level to site management, ProQual and ELCAS which offer enhanced learning credits for former military personnel to retrain.

Mental Health England First Aid and Mental Health courses also cover everything from mental health Aware and First Aid to Suicide Prevention.

“Our aim is to become the main centre for health and safety in the area so we are continually looking at ways to improve and make health and safety simpler for businesses,” says Arron, who started the company as a health and safety consultancy in 2018.

“It is why we are keen to offer training and testing facilities in one so that construction workers can learn and be accredited in one day rather than having to book separate training and test sites.

“We also offer a variety of different courses which cover the whole spectrum of employee health and safety from manufacturing and construction to mental health too.”
