Birmingham demolition contractor Colemans is celebrating 60 years in business with a £60,000 donation to local charity, SIFA Fireside, after a year of fundraising activities.

Colemans, which has worked on key local projects including New Street Station, Three Snowhill and Bullring Debenhams, remains a family business 60 years after it was founded by John and Norah Coleman in October 1962.

With their grandson Mark Coleman now CEO, the business hosted a 60th anniversary dinner where it presented a cheque for £60,000 to Birmingham-based SIFA Fireside, which supports clients in their recovery from the effects of homelessness. Employees helped to raise £30,000 with a series of fundraising activities since March 2022 and the figure was matched by the business.

Colemans has also unveiled a new corporate identity, new website and is launching a new video diary series to celebrate the milestone.

Mark Coleman said: “The business has come a long way since 1962, we’ve been through some good times and some challenging times, but we’re proud to still be here and we’ve used those experiences to help shape the safe, agile and skilled organisation that exists today.

“Today we focus on what matters most to our people, the planet and our customers; improving safety, supporting the environment and exceeding client expectations on projects of all sizes.

“The donation to SIFA Fireside was made possible thanks to the efforts of many people, and we’re delighted to be able to help support the community in this way.”

New corporate identity
Mark adds: “The milestone gave us an opportunity to refresh the brand with a new identity that better reflects our ambitions as a modern, forward-thinking business.

“We’re proud to have maintained a personal touch throughout our 60 years and we’re also showcasing that by adopting the well-used ‘Colemans’ name. It’s how many of our friends have always referred the business and it’s how many of us answer the phone. Now it’s front and centre of our corporate identity.

“We’re also launching a video series, Mark’s Demolition Diaries, that will look back at my own experiences in the industry – the challenges, the successes, the key themes that have shaped our business strategy and the rich Irish heritage that gave us the values on which we still operate.”

‘Mark’s Demolition Diaries’ is an exciting new video series hosted by Mark Coleman, following in the footsteps of his father David Coleman, who published ‘Dave’s Demolition Diaries’ blog in 2012 over the course of Colemans’ 50th year in business.

Videos over the next 12 months will share Mark’s experiences throughout his life, from being a child sitting in cab of his father’s trucks, right up to present day. He will be talking about his love for the industry, the challenges that the business has faced and the successes that it has achieved, giving a flavour of the culture at Colemans and its vision for the future.

The first video will be available on www.coleman-group.co.uk from October 31st.
