More than 160 people stepped up to ensure vital funds for good causes by taking part in the Chester Business Club’s annual charity walk.

The event, which starts and ends at Chester Racecourse, has become one of the city’s highlights, and this year, participants were blessed with sunshine.

Joelle Warren, the High Sheriff of Cheshire, took part and was on hand to see the walkers off at the start of the event on September 21. Joelle waved off 166 participants, many of whom had brought along dogs.

All those taking part were united in purpose, raising funds for vital local charities supporting healthcare, youth services, and families across the Chester area. Final totals are still being calculated, but organisers estimate that thousands will have been raised for good causes.

Peter Broxton, chair of the walk’s organising committee, thanked everyone involved:
“Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s walk. The turnout was fantastic, and the warmth and generosity shown by all the walkers and volunteers made the day very special. It’s heartening to see so much support for such a wide range of charities. The facilities kindly provided by the Chester Race Company are much appreciated”

Walkers enjoyed a scenic and sociable six-mile route out to Eccleston Village Hall and back via the meadows, with refreshment stations generously provided by sponsors along the way.

Nick Owens, founder of headline sponsor Magnify PR, reflected on the day:
“It was fantastic to see the Chester community come together in such positive numbers under clear blue skies. Sponsoring this event gives us the chance to contribute to causes that really matter, and the sunshine added something special to everyone’s experience.”

The walk has now earned legendary status across the city. The free to enter, the six-mile gentle stroll includes refreshment stops where participants could grab a Mars Bar, orange juice, and bacon or vegetarian butties.

It all finished with a celebratory gin and tonic or soft drink. Face painting was also available for children and adults, adding to the festive atmosphere and excitement of the event. Prizes were awarded to the best-behaved dog, with a consolation prize for the worst-behaved canine, as well as recognition for the top fundraiser. Chester BID also contributed two £50 gift cards, which were won by two lucky walkers to spend in shops, restaurants, and leisure venues across the city, further strengthening the event’s community ties.

Looking ahead, plans are already underway for the 2026 Chester Business Club Charity Walk on Sunday September 20th. The event will once again provide an opportunity for the city’s business community and supporters to come together in aid of worthy causes.
