National trade body the BMF (Builders Merchants Federation) has welcomed a major investment in the building materials sector in the Midlands.
BMF member company, Frank Key officially re-opened its flagship store in Daybrook, Nottingham after a £2.5 million renovation.
John Newcomb, CEO of the BMF, hailed the extended and refurbished outlet as representing a ‘significant level of investment’ and said Frank Key was ‘setting a blueprint for a greener future.’
The redesigned store offers a significantly larger, modern retail space and features a range of eco-friendly upgrades including solar panels, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, as well as a new electric forklift.
Mr Newcomb said: “Our industry is fast-paced, dynamic and innovative, and this is reflected in this new development.
“This is an excellent example of a merchant future-proofing their depot, making it easier for customers to do business with them and, at the same time reducing their carbon footprint, which is very much in line with the BMF’s vision for the industry.
“This is a significant level of investment by Frank Key. They clearly understand the importance of the customer experience and are to be congratulated on the expansion and enhancements they have made.
“By investing wisely, moving towards a low carbon future and ensuring that the customer is front and centre of their business, Frank Key is on the right track for the continued success and growth of the business.”
John Newcomb attended the official launch of the store alongside the Mayor of Gedling, Ron McCrossen, and the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire Veronica Pickering, as well as special guest Robert Sansom, who retired as Chair of Frank Key in 2021 after 50 years in the builders merchants industry.
